Fauna. The study of invertebrates has made evident the great diversity of species, many of them being endemics and relicts. 28 species of enchytraeidae have been identified and 12 species of lumbricidae, Allolobophora carpatica being a Northern Carpathians endemic. A great number of collembola species has also been identified, Tetrachanthella transylvanica being one of the most important. Diplopods are represented by 20 species, where 9 are endemic, such as: Glomeris promineus, Polydesmus dadayi, etc. Out of 36 species of chilopods identified, 6 are endemic, such as: Clinopodes rodnensis, Lithobius matici, etc. There are 39 species of orthoptera represented by Isophia brevipennis, Pholidoptera transsylvanica and Miramella ebneri carpathica (endemic). A number of 295 species of lepidopterans has been identified here, some of them being internationally protected: Erebia pharte carpatina, Erebia epiphron transsylvanica, Erebia sudetica, etc. The fauna of this park contains a great number of vertebrates, many of them being characteristic to Eastern Carpathians. The rivers here are the specific habitat for some species such as: trout (Salmo trutta fario), grayling (Thymallus thymallus) or common minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus). Among reptiles, viviparous lizard (Lacerta vivipara) – a relict species – is found in its specific habitats. Birds are represented in this park by large species such as the black grouse (Tetrao tetrix), among the last ones in Romania to be found, the Western capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus), the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaeotes), etc. Mammals are represented especially by: the chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra), the marmot (Marmota marmota, brought here in the Rodna Mountains), the mountain deer (Cervus elaphus), the roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), the wild boar (Sus scrofa), the brown bear (Ursus arctos), the gray wolf (Canis lupus), the Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx), the European pine marten (Martes martes), etc. Translated by Dorina Palade
