„Ciprian Mureşan worked with and recorded a group of children from an elementary school in Iaşi. In his film, the children read from Eugène Ionesco's well-known play Rhinoceros about the metamorphosis of a man into a rhino. The sound of the children's voices unsettles and disturbs the moral consciousness of the viewer, shifting the emphasis of this metamorphosis from the responsibility of the individual to its collective germination." – Attila Tordai-S.
Restaged with American children, Mureşan's piece offers the opportunity for a mirror-like experience: on one monitor, the original text read by Romanian children; on a second monitor, the text delivered by English speaking adolescents. A disturbing and revealing text and its ludic, strong potential are translated into images and words that compose a visual performance in its own. Curated by Lara Taubman, this exclusive presentation hosted by RCINY takes on Ionescu's piece from an unexpected perspective.
