s a tribute to Mircea Eliade, the great Romanian scholar and writer, the April film at the Romanian Cinematheque is 'The Bengali Night', inspired by his most famous fictional work, 'Maitreyi'.
Inspired by the story of young Eliade's infatuation for a beautiful Indian girl, the film explores the mystery of Indian culture and philosophy as well as the invisible cultural barriers that doom the relationship between lovers belonging to different civilizations. Hugh Grant stars as a British engineer who falls in love with his employer's eldest daughter, Gayatri (Supriya Pathak).
