Romanian films at the Jerusalem International Film Festival, July 26 – August 5, 2018

The Jerusalem International Film Festival will take place between July 26 – August 5, 2018 at the Jerusalem Cinematheque.

For this year's edition, Romania will be present in the festival with 2 films, presented for the first time in Israel: Touch Me Not, directed by Adina Pintilie and Infinite Football, directed by Corneliu Porumboiu.

Synopsis: at the boundary between fiction, documentary and visual art, experimenting courageously in both content and cinematic language level, Touch Me Not is a personal investigation of the idea of intimacy, of the human need for authentic contact. A woman and two men looking for privacy. Lost in the cold city's immensity, their loneliness' meet - by chance or by the will of destiny - in a strange attempt to create contact.

Synopsis: Infinite Football, selected in the Forum section of the Berlin Film Festival 2018, takes an original look at the world of sports, this time in the background of rural Romania, following the attempt of an official to leave the world with a better version of this wonderful sport. The scenario starts from the ideas of a local clerk in Vaslui, who has had the courage to ask himself questions about the rules of the football game: why is football field a rectangular one? Should the players be allowed to play all over the field? Is there any intimate relationship between football and life?

Furthermore, another Romanian film will be shown within the section Debuts. Lemonade is the first feature film of Romanian director Ioana Uricaru and is produced by Cristian Mungiu. The movie was selected in this year's edition of the Berlin Film Festival and will be screened as following:

The Jerusalem International Film Festival celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, at the Jerusalem Cinematheque. During its 10 days tenure, an average of 150-200 films are projected in the following sections: Panorama (international productions), Documentary Films, The Jewish Experience (dealing with issues related to Jewish identity or the history of the Jews), The Spirit of Freedom (films concerned with the concept of freedom and human rights), Drama Television, New Directors and Israeli Film (premiers of Israeli productions).  Among the guests of the Festival, over the years, were Warren Beaty, Marcello Mastroiani, Robert de Niro, Roberto Benigni, Jane Fonda, Michael Haneke, Claude Lelouch, Lucian Pintilie and Roman Polanski.
