Tempted to challenge the traditional sources of inspiration of Romanian design and yet attracted by its most viable ideas, the Romanian exhibition at the spectacular Clerkenwell Design Week (24-26 May) is a seductive commentary on destruction and renewal, on forgetfulness and reinvention. Attuned to the trade's latest cries, the Romanian artists offer a vivid illustration of the contemporary reactions to tradition and the often original response to the dominant poetics of forms and space.

The Romanian participation in the Clerkenwell Design Week is organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute in partnership with Halima Habil and dizainar.ro.
Clerkenwell is home to more creative businesses and architects per square mile than anywhere else on the planet, making it truly one of the most important design hubs in the world. To celebrate this rich and diverse community, Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) has created a showcase of leading UK and international brands and companies presented in a series of showroom events, exhibitions and special installations that take place across the area. Celebrating its 7th year in May 2016 (24-26) the award-winning CDW has firmly established itself as the UK's leading independent design festival and annually attracts the international design community to this small area of London for three days of exciting events. In 2015, the design community flocked to Clerkenwell with 35,414 attendees and over 300 exhibiting brands.

Alexandru Ioniţă
Alexandru Ioniţă holds an MA degree from The National University of Arts in Bucharest. After winning the Grand Prize at Romanian Association of Furniture Manufacturers in 2008, he became a member of the management group PRISPA ONG '10-'12. Alexandru's work is focused on products, brands, websites and mobile apps. With a love for challenges, he aims to always find the unexpected solution. | .jpg) |
Andrei Ignia
.jpg) Bulb27 is a project of applied art on industrial and vintage objects set up by Andrei Ignia. Whether inspired by industrial shuttles used in textile industry in the former German Democratic Republic or by the bugle used on Ford cars model T from the 40s, his lamps transcend their primary function and aspire to mimic organic and industrial structures. | .jpg) |
Ciprian Manda
.jpg) Ciprian Manda's career started in Dorin Ștefan Architect's office, where he had to deal with complex projects, which demanded a lot of detail work and on-site supervision. Relying on this valuable experience, he set up his own architectural office in 2010 and a year later founded Silva Artis brand, a further exploration of forms and materials. He likes to visit the new as well as the old, as sources of inspiration, in order to bring more depth to space. Rough textures and strong colours are his trademark and they are brought together using precise details. | .jpg) |
Mădălina Teler

Mădălina Teler began studying ceramics early in her teenage years, and continued during college and university years.
