Since 1936, when Oedipe debuted at the Opéra Garnier in Paris, Enescu's masterpiece has been performed on renown musical stages throughout the world. In the past 80 years, great singers like David Ohanesian, José Van Dam or Monte Pederson have shone in the notoriously challenging title role. Through a kaleidoscope of rarely seen photographs and reproductions, The George Enescu National Museum's exhibition 'Oedipe: a Visual History' traces the opera's sinuous fate from its long gestation and rapturous premiere to relative post-war neglect and eventual rediscovery. The exhibition is curated by musicologist Cristina Andrei, Director of the George Enescu National Museum in Bucharest.
The exhibition will only be at the Royal Opera House on 4 May and only available to ticket holders of the Insight.
