Common Roots. Design Map of Central Europe

Between November 15, 2012 and March 3, 2013, Holon Design Museum is presenting the project „Common Roots. Design Map of Central Europe”, comprising a selection of daily life objects (industrially produced, handmade unique pieces or prototypes) created by Central and Eastern European designers.

The exhibition aims to reveal some of the common cultural features of the participating countries, through two categories of objects: the ones designed recently and the ones produced in the communist period. The paticipating countries are: Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia.

The Romanian selection includes contemporary objects created by AA Studio (Alex Adam & Roger Pop), Alexe Popescu & Radu Manelici, AtelierA4 (Raluca Bumbac, Adina Segal), Cristina Popescu Russu, Dragoș Motica, Akronym Studios (Emilian Dan Carțiș), Emil Răgușilă, IEKA (Basil Rasputin), Ioana Corduneanu, Marius Marcu Lapadat, NUCA (Robert Marin & Ramona Macarie), Radu Comșa, Radu Teacă, Șerban Sturdza, Iulian Ungureanu, Virgil Scripcariu.

The history of the Romanian Design will be highlighted through several objects belonging to arch. Corvin Cristian, which are part of his interior design projects „Atelier Mecanic” and „Papiota”.

The catalogue of the exhibition will include a text by Mirela Duculescu, the result of her search on the history of the Romanian design.
An extended presentation of the exhibition will be published on the website of the Holon Design Museum. Officially opened in 2010, the Museum is acclaimed for the up-to-date design issues launched here on international debate and for the extended architecture and design database here, on offer especially for the students and researchers in these domaines.

The official opening (preview for the specialists and the press; access by invitation only) will take place on November 14, 20:00 hrs, in the presence of the Diplomatic Core. Related to this exhibition, on November 15, there will be organized an international event for the students of the Holon Institute of Technology.
