Romanian Show at "Jerusalem International Arts and Crafts Fair". 2-14.08.2010

From August 2nd to 14th, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv has the pleasure to invite you to the 35th edition of the international Jerusalem Arts and Crafts Festival. Romania, as a guest of honor of this edition, will be presenting two folklore performances. The famous tulnic (alphorn) players Mariana and Marcela Gligor, as well as the folklore group „Cântul Sălciuan" will play traditional music and dance from Alba County, on the 2nd of August at 20.30 hrs., and on 3rd of August at 19.30 hrs.
Our partners, ANTREC* Alba, have prepared a specific old rural event (șezătoare), where the artists Felicia Roman, Georgeta Voina, Mariana Gligor and Roxana Roman would demonstrate their handicraft in making beads bracelets and necklaces, knitting and traditional wool spinning. Ad-hoc workshops will be available for the public. The Romanian booth will display a wide selection of handmade folklore art objects from Alba County (North-western Romania) that could be both admired and bought: traditional shirts "ii", home woven table mats and towels, handmade jewelry, wooden small objects, musical instruments, toys. Audio-books with traditional music for children will be also available.
The international Jerusalem Arts and Crafts Festival, which has taken place for more than thirty years, has become a tradition in Jerusalem and the largest tourist attraction of the Jerusalem summer season. It is held at the Hutzot Hayotzer Arts and Crafts Center, Mitchell Gardens and the Merrill Hassenfeld Amphitheater in the Sultan's Pool, opposite the Tower of David at the foot of the Old City Walls. More than 150 of the best of Israel's artist and artisans, as well as almost 40 international booths, exhibit paintings, prints, ceramics, metalwork and jewelry, weaving and textiles, Judaica, toys, crafts in various techniques, works in wood and more. The international exhibit includes authentic and varied arts and crafts from all over the world.
Romania had a successful presence at the previous edition of the fair (2009); many of our visitors inquired us about tourism opportunities in Romania, especially in Transylvania. Therefore, for this edition, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv chooses to cooperate with ANTREC* Alba in order to promote cultural traditions of this ancient part of Romania.
The Festival is open every evening (except Fridays) from 18:00 – 23:00 and Saturday from one hour after the end of the Sabbath until midnight.
