The Romanian Cultural Institute and Leicester Square Theatre present Cornel Sorian and OOBERFUSE in their first public show after having transformed Heart's Cry into the official youth anthem for the Papal visit to the UK. Together with visual artist Dan Basu and Percival Quartet, the London-based band that brings together the very best of Western and Filipino musical tradition is ready to rock the house with a programme of original songs plus covers from famous pieces by Portishead, Massive Attack, Depeche Mode and Shirley Bassey. The supporting act will be provided by L.A Davis. Styling by Callum Vincent.
Ooberfuse is Cherrie Anderson (Vocals), Hal St John (Backing Vocals, Synths and Kulintang), Cornel Sorian (Shynts, Glockenspiel, Guitar, Programming), Alex de Torres (Guitar, Synths), and Michel Radermecker (drummer). In the band's own words, their music is all about fusing bold melodies with cool harmonies and by doing so to infusing the increasingly moribund traditions of Western pop with a fresh vigour. They reject the standard conventions dominating the contemporary pop scene and ask everyone to convert to ooberfuse-ism in music as well as in life!
Romanian artist Dan Basu is well-known for his vivid, arresting visuals. He playfully uses video footages to convey a powerful, emotionally charged content to the audience. Working from 2003 as VJ, DJ and visual artist, Dan Basu has been engaged in an astonishing array of projects, from hip-hop to jazz and silent films soundtracks, and has worked with respected musicians such as Alex Harding, Mat Maneri, and Lucian Ban. In May 2010, Dan Basu and composer Silent Strike were invited to perform in the opening of Recoil project, created by former Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder.
