The Romanian Cultural Institute proudly supports the presence of the documentary film „ Toto and His Sisters” (2014, directed by Alexander Nanău) in the competition of the 17th edition of the Docaviv International Documentary Film Festival, that will take place in Tel Aviv between the 7th and the 16th of May 2015.
„Toto and His Sisters” is a project supported by the European Union, in partnership with Policy Center for Roma and Minorities and OSF (Open Society Foundation). The film participated in IDFA Pitching Forum (2011), Docu Rough Cut Boutique and Cinelink Sarajevo (2012), was supported through a grant from Sundance Institute Documentary Film Programs and participated in Sundance Documentary Edit and Story Lab 2013. Previous festivals: DokFest Leipzig, San Sebastian, Tribeca, Zurich IFF, Festival dei Popoli, Festival Premiers Plans, Warsaw Film Festival, East Silver Market, Luxembourg Film Festival.
Synopsis: „The astonishing family story of Toto (10), and his sisters, Ana (17) and Andreea (15). During their mother's imprisonment, Toto passionately learns dancing, reading and writing, while his sisters try to keep the family together in a world that has long forgotten what the innocence of childhood should be. Docaviv International Documentary Film Festival is the only film festival in Israel dedicated exclusively to documentary cinema and is Tel Aviv’s largest film festival.
