Romanian films at the Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival. 31.05 – 06.06.2015, Tel Aviv Cinematheque

The 17th edition of the Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival takes place between 31.05 – 06.06.2015, at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque.
The Romanian short film Idle (24’, Romania, 2013), directed by Raia Al Souliman, will be screened as part of the international competition on Wednesday, 03.06.2016, at 12:00, at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the film director Raia Al Souliman and the director’s assistant Sarra Tsorakidis, whose presence at the festival has been possible with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv.
Another Romanian film included in the festival’s program is Tales from the Golden Age (2009), an omnibus film produced by Cristian Mungiu. The film will be screened on Sunday, 31.05.2015, between 17:00 – 20:30, at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque.

At this year’s edition of the festival there will be screened 100 films from 30 countries, including from Romania, with the focus on short films. Student films will be included in three categories: Israeli competition, international competition and independent short films (films shot and produced after graduation). George Goldenstern, general director of Cinéfondation of the Cannes Film Festival, and Ronit Elkabetz, the acclaimed Israeli actress and filmmaker, are among the jury members.
The festival will open on 31.05.2015 with the project “Prologue: Framework for developing short films”, initiated in 2014 by Keren Makor and YES. Within the project there have been developed and financed three Israeli short films: Thorn by Michael Alalu, Hunt dogs by Omer Tovi and Hot by Yotam Gendelman.

Established in 1986 and part of CILECT, the Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival soon became a household name among the similar festivals in the world. Synopsis: In a world ruled by boredom and apathy, a boy and a girl meet for the first time.

Raia Al Souliman, born in 1988, in Romania, is a graduate of the I. L. Caragiale National University of Theater and Film in Bucharest. Filmography: Idle (2013), I’m a Walking Contradiction (2012), Titan (2011), Offseason (2010), Stockholm Syndrome (2008).Sarra Tsorakidis graduated Film Directing in 2013 at the I. L. Caragiale National University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest. She wrote and directed several short movies that have been selected in festivals around the world. Currently, she is in pre­production for her next short film, that she plans on shooting in August. Tales From the Golden Age (Romania, 2009)
Screening: Sunday, 31.05.2015, between 17:00 – 20:30, at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque
Synopsis: This comic and darkly ironic look at Romania under the Ceausescu regime uses urban myths from this so called 'golden age' to show the idiocies of daily life in a dictatorship, and the importance of humor in coping with its consequences. The project was conceived and scripted by Cristian Mungiu (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days), who also directs two of the episodes.
